The Porsche 928 is a luxury grand touring performance vehicle produced by Porsche AG from 1978 to 1995. Originally intended to replace the iconic rear-engine, air-cooled 911, the 928 combined the power, handling, and exhaust sound of a sports car with comfort, luxury, and aggressive styling usually referred to as the “shark.”

The vehicle was considered Porsche’s flagship and was believed to have much wider appeal than the more compact 911. It ultimately did not sell as well but many 928 fans believe the newer generation of 911s such as the 991 and 992 essentially embody the 928 in spirit due to their emphasis on comfort and luxury over pure performance.

The 928 has the distinction of being Porsche’s first production V8 powered model and its only two-door model powered by a front-mounted V8 engine.
